Blood Mountain by Mastodon

I don't know how many folks here are metal heads or just like the genre in general but if you do one band you should give a good listen to is Mastodon. They're a group out of Atlanta, GA and they are to say the least, unique. Their recent album is called "Blood Mountain" and in spite of the gory sounding Title the album itself is exceptional. I put them into the same category as Tool (my favorite band) in that they have a totally unique sound that identifies the music as their's when you hear it. I personally like them a lot, especially the drummer and lead guitar as both are extremely talented.

I'll warn you now...they are a bit strange. They like to do seemingly random tempo and rhythm shifts in the middle of their songs and the frontman's vocal style can take some getting used to. If you like the genre and want to hear something new and unique pick it up. "Blood Mountain" is definately worth it.

If you end up liking it they have two other albums:

Leviathan- Their debut album and a solid musical effort.

Remission- This is basically their rerelease album of things they wrote that never made it onto an album before hand. This CD really establishes their music character as a band and it is very good. I have to add that their drummer is just amazing on the kit. His hand speed and timing are unreal. He's has fast with his hands as Ray Herrerra of Fear Factory is on the Double Bass Kit. He's just flat out sick.

LOL Ed. They say everything old becomes new again, let's hope the hair bands of the 80s are the exception to this rule. cool.gif

Personally I'm glad the 80's are over. Winger ? Ouch.

Nice call on Clutch though Ralph. Those guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. They have such a fantastic and unique sound. I even thought that their "Hardcore" album,"Pitchfork and Lost Needles" was really good. They have one hell of a Drummer to.

Btw- My Internet got turned off this past week. I'm currently checking things out at my sister's and will hopefully be back up and running at my Apt tomorrow or Tuesday (if the Holiday is an issue with my next paycheck coming through on time). I look forward to getting back into things though.

HAHAHA the Avalon! Tori used to live over there so I saw that marquee a lot, they always have washed up acts like that. Their other claim to fame is that they're the place off Lawrence that used to be Bullwinkles! laugh.gif

"Winger" and "Street cred" are two phrases I never thought I'd hear in the same statement...
