Cue the controversy over the selection from Stockholm.

There will be no controversy! Well I don’t think so anyways. Juan Scarritt was my choice a few days ago, I was just waiting to see if any stragglers made any epic scale brain farts on their protects.

Oh yeah, I didn’t see an email announcing the start of the draft. Obviously I posted my pick in the forum but I usually email it to make it official as well. Just sent it to the draft - at - weaverball alias, not sure if it’s pointing to Ryan or not.

really interested to see what the godfathers will do at #2 now that the swedes are off the board. poach a top talent from another team, or keep the current crew rolling and try to take down a stockholm team that has lost key contributors to retirement plus Scarritt to FA?

if a Swede had not gone first overall, that would have been a double whammy, losing a #7 talent to your strongest rival.

Almeida to the Godfathers would have been highly intriguing.

Yeah I am shocked that Almeida didn't get plucked, yet again...

jim can confirm, but i'd bet it was the age that pushed almeida down the nukes priority list. he mentioned wanting to take the nukes back on the upswing, but Nuno probably isn't going to stick around long enough to see the end product. would have to deal him for "picks and prospects", putting things off that much longer. at 33, scarritt has the potential to be a building block middle order bat the Nukes for 3-5 years.

That is correct, the difference in age was a factor but that wasn’t the only consideration. I didn’t think the gap between them was really all that big and I needed a RF more than a LF. Honestly if there was a bigger difference in talent I would take an older player at a position that I already had depth but I didn’t feel that was the case in this situation.

Scarritt was my #1 FA as well. In fact, I was going over my list and saw only 5 names on it thinking damn, I need a 6th! Then I remembered why I only had 5 choices - because one guy was not going to slide at all.
