Hey Oakland/SF folks.  I was watching the A's game last night and the President of Baseball Operations was talking about buying 50% of the stadium with a 5-0 vote.  Isn't a new stadium being built and won't there just be baseball in a year or so?

The idea is to build a new stadium on the waterfront near Downtown Oakland and redevelop the Coliseum site to generate revenue to build the new ballpark.  That being said, getting something built at the waterfront site isn’t a slam dunk yet.  The A’s say they can’t get financing at the Coliseum site since it won’t generate as much revenue, but I think they’re saying that to create urgency to get the waterfront ballpark done.  If that doesn’t work I do think they’ll find a way to make it work with a new ballpark at the Coliseum site.

Ah.  Ok.  Because the way they were talking, they wanted to keep the old stadium as a concert venue and entertainment complex.  Though, there are some major improvements planned over the next couple years?  I couldn't tell you exactly what those are because I'm not familiar with the stadium enough.

Anyway, thanks for the information.  I hope you do land a new ballpark.  That thing is 54 years old or something.

How the colesium complex currently looks. Free way right next to it and colesium has his own exit. Other side is train tracks and bart on the other side.

The whole street running parallel to the bart is full of homeless encampments and the stadium is in one of the wore3 parts of Oakland. It's so bad 1 exit down the home depot is threatening to pull out because of the theft due to another huge homeless encampment.

So all in all the downtown location is ideal mostly because it's in a mostly non residential are and it's an area that's already going through gentrification. Much like the rest of the sf bay are that is currently becoming very expensive.

Ok.  The trees on the roof are dumb looking.  Sorry.  And, a big windstorm rips them up and throws them onto the field.

Where would Golden State play then?  Also, is that just a big industrial warehouse area?  What an odd place for a stadium complex.

Yes it is. Great access to the field via bart and free way. Everything else well ya.  But it's the shit hole I grew up going to and love lol.

The warriors will already be playing in their new arena in San Francisco next season. Where as the raiders are supposed to be leaving the season after next.

The images on the link Eric shared are already a little out of date.  Check out this link for the latest renderings...

Oakland Ballpark

I always take renderings with a grain of salt, since first of all they are a work in progress and secondly I always imagine things will look better in real life than in drawings.  Which is why I think the park on the roof of the ballpark would be awesome!  I guess they plan on keeping access to it open when there is no event scheduled, and restrict access to it as a standing room only section during games.  I’m just imagining watching a game on a bench in a park along the rim of the stadium with bacon wrapped hot dog vendors, beer vendors...  That would be incredible!  I don’t think the renderings do the concept justice.
